At The Rory Peck Trust, we know only too well that when a freelancer is killed or seriously injured, the lives of their family, friends and colleagues can change forever.

Grants from the Rory Peck Trust make a lasting difference to the lives of freelance newsgatherers and their families, especially in countries where it’s difficult to operate freely and safely.  Many of the people we help have been filming TV news pictures shown around the globe, or helping other journalists get stories – but they can’t take the next plane out of town. These are the people whose voices often provide the only independent view and their work is vital to our understanding of the world.

Our grants help freelancers reach a safe place, recover, retrain, get back to work. Our grants help their families to survive without them and move forward. We help people in crime-ridden countries, in conflict zones and in some of the poorest and most remote regions of the world – sometimes they simply can’t believe that someone cares.

Sadly, for every case we help, there are at least three more for whom we can do nothing. We simply don’t have enough money. In so many places, a little goes a long way, and your donation can help to make a real difference to someone’s life.  The Trust does much more than give money – we offer advice and moral support, we refer people to other sources of help, and we stay in touch with our beneficiaries. For very many of the people we help, it’s not only about giving money – it’s about hope – and being there.
