Article 19 is an international human rights organisation with a specific mandate and focus on the defence and promotion of freedom of expression worldwide. They have a strong focus on Latin America, and in particular Mexico. In 2008 the Trust partnered with Article 19 Mexico to run the first ever good practice programme
in the country, to raise awareness of the daily dangers facing freelancers there. The Trust has also worked with them to run a number of safety training sessions
, the most recent of which took place in 2011.
C-Libre are a Honduras-based NGO that research and monitor attacks on free press in the country. They advocate for free speech and promote freedom of expression.
Cerigua is a news organisation that works to promote free speech and media pluralism in Guatemala. It runs the ‘El Observatorio de los Pariodistas’, which monitors individual attacks on journalists in the country. They also run safety training workshops, which the Trust helped send 62 Guatemalan freelances to
during 2011 and 2012.
FLIP works to track reports of violations of press freedom and in Colombia and to promote access to information. RPT have been working with FLIP
to help support displaced Colombian freelancers contribute to a unique online income-generating project.
IPYS, based in Peru, defends journalists at risk and promotes freedom of expression, access to public information and independent journalism in Latin America. It offers resources for journalists and media workers and organises an annual conference that promotes investigative journalism in the region.
