Safety training is vitally important for freelance journalists planning to work in hostile environments. The Rory Peck Trust Training Fund enables freelance journalists to gain the essential skills and knowledge needed to work in difficult and potentially dangerous situations. Professional training with one of our trusted course providers teaches journalists how to assess risk and spot danger, handle a crisis, support others and give vital first aid.
Eligibility
In order to be eligible for a training bursary, you must have worked as a freelancer in newsgathering and/or current affairs for a minimum of 18 months.
Please note: The number of bursaries is limited and priority is given to freelancers whose work frequently takes them into hostile environments, and to those with a confirmed assignment.
How long does it take to process an application?
On receipt of your application form and supporting documents, it can take between one and three weeks to process. We recommend that you advise your referees in advance that they will be contacted by the Trust.
Which course provider should I choose?
The Trust works with several accredited COURSE PROVIDERS. You must take your training with one of them, but it is up to you to select the one that best fits your needs. We recommend researching the courses of each training provider before deciding which one is right for you.
