Media Travel Grants

Asia, New Zealand
This programme from the Asia New Zealand Foundation offers New Zealand journalists the chance to travel independently to Asia to research and produce stories that seek to increase New Zealanders’ understanding of Asia and promote themes of economic, political, social or strategic change in Asia – and the implications of these changes for New Zealand.
PCIJ Writing Fellowships

Philippines
The Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism offers Fellowships for investigative reportage to full-time reporters, freelance journalists and academics. Their reports are syndicated in major Philippine newspapers and magazines or aired by broadcasters. PCIJ gives travel and research expenses, and sometimes also covers video or radio production costs. The Center also pays writer’s and director’s fees, and can give funding of up to P30,000 for each project. Research and editorial support, including editorial supervision, will be provided by the Center.
Africa-China Reporting Grants

Africa, China
Since 2009, the Africa-China Reporting Project at Wits Journalism has provided reporting grants and other opportunities for journalists to investigate complex dynamics and uncover untold stories, emphasising on-the-ground impact and perspectives to illustrate how the lives of the people of Africa are changing amid the comprehensive phenomenon of Africa-China interactions.
SAJA Reporting Fellowships

South Asia
This programme is aimed at promoting in-depth, follow-up reporting on major events related to South Asia or South Asians, long after the breaking-news crews have moved on. A total of up to $20,000 may be given out annually, divided among projects at SAJA’s discretion. Each Fellowship award is typically between $3,000-$7,000. Open to freelancers and staff journalists in any medium, the grants are meant to encourage in-depth reporting projects.
