RPT launches fundraising appeal for freelancers

From 25th November until Christmas day, we are dedicating all our efforts to fundraising to #supportfreelancejournos in crisis.

We’re raising £25,000 for freelance journalists in crisis this Christmas – and we need your help.

2020 marks 25 years since the Trust was founded in memory of freelance camera operator Rory Peck, killed on assignment in Moscow. Since then, we’ve supported freelance journalists with £1.6 million in assistance grants, given training bursaries to nearly 800 journalists and completed projects in over 30 countries. More than 2500 freelancers have received assistance through the Trust – and you can see some of them in the image above.

With the global pandemic, suppression of press freedom, and increasing hostility against media workers, freelance journalists are in a more precarious position than ever. So from the 25th November until Christmas day, we are dedicating all our efforts to fundraising to #supportfreelancejournos, with the aim of raising £25,000 for our Assistance Fund to provide vital support in times of crisis.

The Trust is independent and relies on donations. We urge you to make a contribution today – 100% of your donation will go to freelance journalists.
