Tribute donation made in honor of Reese Schonfeld

In memory of news executive who helped launch the cable news era as first president of CNN

The Trust would like to thank Donna Hanover, who contributed to the critical work of supporting freelance journalists with a donation in honor of her friend and former boss Reese Schonfeld. “I appreciate your wonderful work, which has been described to me glowingly by one of the journalists who helped launch your organization,” she said.

Tribute donations, made in memory of a friend, colleague or loved one, are a significant way of helping the Trust to continue assisting freelance journalists around the world when they need it the most. Donations can be made directly to the Trust here.

Mr. Schonfeld was a visionary news executive who teamed with businessman Ted Turner to launch CNN, the world’s first 24-hour news network, then later co-founded the Food Network. “I thought the task was simple,” he wrote in Me and Ted Against the World. “If we delivered the facts about everything we saw as important in the world, people would act righteously, and the world would be a better place. What newsman could have a better dream than that?”
