RPT establishes senior safety role

Catalina Cort├ęs becomes the Trust's Senior Programme Officer for Safety and the Americas.

In her new position, Catalina will take forward the Trust’s work on safety, working with new and established partners to help ensure that local freelancers have access to affordable training that is relevant to them and their region. She will also represent the Trust on the ACOS Alliance Safety Training Group.
 
Catalina joined the Trust in 2007 as a Research Intern. In May 2008, she became a Programme Officer, helping to establish the Trust's work in Latin America and playing a central role in the Good Practice Programme in Mexico.
 
In 2010 she took on the management of the Rory Peck Training Fund and since then has been actively involved in running subsequent safety training projects with partners in countries including Egypt, Iraq, Guatemala, Lebanon, Mexico and Turkey. She has also played an instrumental role in setting up and managing our training partnership with New York's Columbia School of Journalism.
 
Catalina trained as a lawyer in her native Colombia. She speaks Spanish and English and will continue to research and distribute freelance assistance grants across the Americas.
