Announcing this year’s
Rory Peck Awards winners

The 2023 Awards took place on 15th November at BAFTA in London. Attended by filmmakers, journalists, editors and commissioners from the international media industry, the Awards recognised outstanding work by freelance journalists from around the world.

We are delighted to announce that the winners of the annual Rory Peck Awards, one of the only Awards in the world to exclusively recognise work by freelance journalists and filmmakers, have been unveiled. Presenters across four categories announced the 2023 winners at BAFTA in a ceremony hosted by Faisal Islam (BBC) and Bronwen Maddox (Chatham House).

The four winners were selected from hundreds of entries, presenting powerful news stories from all corners of the world – stories that we might not otherwise have access to without the insight and commitment of these freelancers.

Women journalists and filmmakers dominated the winners’circle, taking the top prize in three out of four of the categories, selected by panels of high-level news and film industry judges. Also, for the first time, 25% of this year’s finalists are from India.
