The Rory Peck Trust launches its new global THERAPY FUND in response to the psychological risks that freelance journalists are exposed to.

Repeated exposure to danger and traumatic events can cause serious and long-term psychological difficulties and in the case of those reporting from hostile environments, PTSD or moral injury. Unlike staff journalists, most freelancers don’t have access to an employee support programme.
The TRAUMA THERAPY FUND forms an integral part of the RESILIENCE PROGRAMME which in partnership with Meta, provides specialist trauma-informed training and access to psychological treatment. The Resilience Programme enables freelance journalists to develop the skills they need to build resilience when exposed to conflict or covering traumatic events.
The Trauma Therapy Fund is now open to applications from freelance journalists that need financial support to cover the cost of trauma management therapy.
Clothilde Redfern Director of the Rory Peck Trust said: “Telling the stories the world needs to hear can come at great personal risk to freelance journalists. Our Resilience Programme in partnership with Meta provides much needed training and mental health support to freelance newsgathers. It is imperative that we support and protect those who uphold democratic freedoms and shine a light on the world’s darkest corners.”
