Martin Adler Prize – Finalist
Abdulwaheed Sofiullahi
Based in: Nigeria
“Abdulwaheed is a courageous and deeply impactful Nigerian journalist whose reporting captures the human stories behind climate change, conflict, health, and food insecurity across West Africa. At just 28, he has already established himself as a bold, evidence-driven storyteller producing globally relevant journalism under some of the region’s toughest reporting conditions.
His investigations - from the collapse of rice farming due to banditry to maternal loss in Borno’s IDP camps - have amplified underrepresented voices and influenced conversations on policy and accountability. Beyond his reporting, he is dedicated to strengthening African journalism through mentoring and training young reporters, making him a standout voice and a role model for the next generation.”
