Rory Peck Trust partner Sony has been recognised with a Corporate Star Award at IBC in Amsterdam, the world’s largest broadcasting, media and technology exhibition. The judges praised Sony for going “above and beyond” in its 30-year partnership with the Trust—an initiative they said “inspires, empowers and leaves a lasting legacy.”
The Corporate Star Awards celebrate sustainability in the media sector, recognising excellence across 12 categories including diversity, education, environmental impact, corporate social responsibility and product innovation. This year’s winners also included the BBC and Brazilian media giant Globo.
Sony is one of the Trust’s original partners, having sponsored the first Rory Peck Awards in 1995. Three decades on, it continues to back the Awards’ Impact category, which honours freelance camera operators whose work sparks public debate, influences policy, or drives awareness. It marks the Impact Award each year by presenting the category’s winner with its latest professional video camera.”
Accepting the award alongside Sony in Amsterdam, the Rory Peck Trust’s Executive Director Jon Williams described the entertainment and tech giant as a “lifesaver.”
“Every penny we spend supporting freelance journalists comes from our partners” he said. “A sustainable future for media means protecting and prioritising freelancers—their journalism, their safety and their creativity. Together with Sony, we’ve been building that future for thirty years. And we’re just getting started.”
